5 Point Program

Point One: Personal and Social Development

Module 1.1: Know the rules of health: Cleanliness, Food and Exercise

1. Make a poster for any one of the below:
-Promote healthy dieting
-The dangers of over-exercising and having too little exercise
-How to obtain a balanced meal in the canteen for both recess and lunch (food/drink must be found in the canteen), give reasons as to why they are healthy
-Give 2 recipes for a healthy dessert (include ingredients, method of preparation and reasons as to why they are healthy)
Include credits when necessary.

(Poster should be of A3 size)

Module 1.2: Show knowledge on any 2 health related diseases

Individual

1.Take on the role of a doctor and write a letter to your patient, who is suffering from one of the following diseases:
-          Cancer/ Depression/ Heart Disease/ Fatty Liver/ Extreme Obesity/ Lung Disease (Ex-smokers)

Include in your letter an explanation on how the disease manifested itself, the cures that are currently available and the lifestyle changes the patient should adopt. You may include pictures. (Minimum of 200 words) You must include credits.

Module 2.1 Know yourself: Recognize your strengths and weaknesses. Develop your strengths and correct your weaknesses. Set goals in your Guiding life and work towards achieving them.

Module 2.2: Know ways to manage stress

Individual

1. Do a write up that covers these points:
-3 weaknesses (with examples)
-3 strengths (with examples)
-5 things unique about yourself

2. Write an essay that covers these points:
-Why it is important to overcome your weaknesses
- How you can use your strengths to help your COY
- To what extent should you control your emotions
- What you do when you are stressed
-Why it is bad to be overly stressed
-What you would do for a friend who is overly stressed


Module 3.1: Explore the Arts (Literary Arts, Performing Arts, Visual Arts) Express yourself on working on one of them


1. Research on the lives and works of one of the following artistes:
-Leonardo da vinci, Michelangelo, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso
-Beethoven, Wolfgang Mozart, Luciano Pavarotti, Zubir Said
-Samuel Beckett, Shakespeare, Arthur Miller, Sylvia Plath

Include in your research an analysis on the works of the artiste of your choice eg. The intention of the artiste behind the works. You must include credits.

Module 3.4: Make out a list of leadership skills. Demonstrate two such skills in working with others

Individual

1. Make a list of 3 prominent female leaders and include in your write up why they are good leaders and what can you learn from them (eg. values). Include credits.

Module 2.2: Make an article by recycling or reusing materials


Individual

1. Make a pencil holder using recycled materials.

**Module 2.3: Thrift  (Thrift Badge)


Individual

1. Get one of your parents to write a letter saying that you are thrifty in terms of time, money and resources. (Letter will be given to you by the PL/PS)

2. Keep a record on your expenditure for 2 weeks

3. Write up on what thrift means to you (Min 100 words)

4. Submit a photocopy of your bankbook. (If your parents do not wish to do so, please photocopy just the cover page of the bankbook to prove that you own one)

Leave your contact number in the writeup, after receiving all portions of the badge the PLs/YA will call you with a few additional questions before we pass you.



**Module 3.1: Safety devices, safety measures in the home  (Accident Prevention Badge)

Pairs

1. Prepare a power point presentation. Include in your presentation photographs of 5 items that are potentially dangerous in your house (eg. curtains near candles), and photographs of how these 5 items can be rearranged/stored so as to minimize the potential for danger.

2. Write up:
Discuss the following in the writeup (point form is acceptable but cannot be overly brief):
-How to guard against accidents when using gas appliances, kerosene stoves, naked lights, open fires
-5 precautions to take in a house with small children
-Another 5 precautions to take in a house with old people.
-3 ways to prevent accidents:
            -When engaging in watersport (including swimming, yatching, boating etc.)
            -When using public transport
            -When cycling/ skating/ walking in a park
            -With pets
            -In high-rise flats

You must include credits.
-Please leave both peoples’ contact numbers in the report, the PLs/ YA will call to question you on your report and ask a few more questions.


Module 3.2: Locate water, gas and electrical mains. Know how to operate them.

Module 1.3: Make a camp gadget using at least one knot and one lashing


Pairs

1. Make shoe rack using 4 square lashes and 4 diagonal lashes. Duration: 20 min. To be tested by PLs/YA


Module 2.1: Identify five local flora and fauna


Individual

1. Do research on 5 different flora (plants) and 5 different fauna (animals) commonly found in Singapore. (Around one page per species) Include details and pictures. Include credits. Note: Animals such as lions and tigers are not allowed.


Module 2.2: Observe closely one flora and fauna in your local environment


Individual

1. Go around the school and observe a flora and fauna. Draw a well-labeled diagram of the flora and fauna. Include the name of the species.


Module 2.3: Participate in one conservation project or know how to conserve a given environment

Individual

1. Construct a flower/ peacock from a drinking can.


Point 4: Community

Module 1.1: Know the rules of road safety

Individual

1. Make a poster/ comic strip to promote 3 tips for road safety.

Module 1.2: Know how to give clear directions to a given place in Singapore


Individual

1. You are given a choice of 3 locations: Plaza Singapura/ Guides House (HQ)/ Vivo City at Harbour Front. Choose one of the three locations and give directions on how to arrive to your destination from school. (Note: locations are subjected to change)


Module 1.3: Know how to use a street directory

Module 1.4: Know how to use a topographical map

1. Clean the canteen. (Bring a rag)


Module 2.1: Know how to use a telephone to make emergency calls for a doctor, the police, the ambulance and the Fire Brigade.

1. Make a personal sign (A4 size) that contains the following numbers:
- Fire Brigade, Police, Ambulance, Non-emergency ambulance, closest Doctor, closest Pharmacy and the school general office.

Module 3: Service to the Community

Individual

1. Complete 6 hours of CIP (please show some proof eg. hand in a photocopy of the piece of paper that is given in the report book that contains the number of CIP hours that you have done in a year)
