Hi :)

Friday 21st November 2008 7.55- 1pm
Official Meeting- Sec 4 Farewell

Sec 4 Farewell

It was certainly a memorable and enjoyable day for everyone, especially our dear seniors who have sadly left us. :( Seniors, thanks for everything you did for us, we'll definitely remember and cherish them!

We fell in at 7.55 am, and Kingfisher Patrol was in charge of the flag. So we fell in and marched into the horseshoe formation. The flag was broken successfully, and after we said the Promise, we all fell out and went to change into our P.E attire. Then we fell in, and went up to the hall to rehease our items for the performance later.

The PLs set up the tables and chairs and decorations while Dove and Flowerpecker Patrol performed first, but not every patrol had the chance to practise as there were some technical difficulties. Next, we had to change into our Guides uniform to get ready for G.O.H. The PLs made sure that we were neat and tidy, and then we went to the corridor outside the hall.

We fell in and marched into our G.O.H positions. We were reminded not to respond or react even if our seniors were to disturb us later on. As there were some problems with the flag pole, some guides went down to the field to help. We stood for quite a while (as we were quite early). Fortunately, we were given some time to rest in between. :D

Finally, our seniors arrived. Some of them took photographs of us, while others tried to make us laugh or removed our badges and spectacles and untied our scarfs, especially Xiu Hui :) We also gave them gifts. When they were done with "disturbing" us, they were ushered into the hall while we fell out and went backstage to change.

This year's theme was something like Farewell Olympics, therefore, all our patrol items were somehow related to it. Our seniors have spent 4 years in Guides, and it is known that once every 4 years, countries meet up together for the Olympics. And the 5 rings of the Olympics represented our Sec 5 seniors.

Tristina and Qarissa were our emcees, and they introduced each patrol before we performed. Dove and Flowerpecker Patrol did a combined item, which included a small skit and a dance. Kingfisher Patrol was up next, and there was also a dance. Mynah Patrol was up next, and their item included an Olympics track event. This was followed by Oriole Patrol, and their performance ended with a song. Finally, Sparrow Patrol performed, and the item ended with an original poem dedicated to all our seniors.

Last but not least, we had the PS item. This included a small skit and a few dances. Then, everyone went onstage to sing our dedication song-"You'll be in my heart", by Phil Collins. There was also a powerpoint presentation prepared by our PLs. After that, we had a "cake-cutting" ceremony. Then, all of us ran backstage to change back into our Guides uniform and rushed downstairs to prepare for the party, while our seniors had a photo-taking session.

When our seniors were done, they went down to the canteen to get the party started. Sparrow said grace. :) There were lots of good food, sparkling juice, and everyone mingled around and had fun. Our seniors also received gifts from us, and some of them had also prepared presents for us too. Thank you! After a while, we all helped to clean up. Next, we proceeded to the field to take COY photographs.

As it was already past 1pm, we all fell in. Mrs Tan was there too and she asked someone to represent all our seniors to say a few words. Xiu Hui told us that they were quite surprised by the effort some of us have put in, as they expected otherwise. But overall, they did enjoy themselves. :) Then we fell out, collected our wallets and went back. Our next meeting will be on the 22nd December, to prepare for the Sec 1 Orientation next year.

Yup, that's about it. Oh, the photographs for Sec 4 Farewell and South Division Day will be up soon. Sorry for the long delay. :(

Hi :)

Monday, 17th November, 7.55-5pm

The meeting on Monday was basically for preparing for Sec 1 Orientation. We fell in and had patrol's report strength and inspection, and then we went to our various components to get started on what we had to do. :) Some of the components are: Backdrop, Item, Structure and Firepit.

Tristina was in charge of item, so we went to familiarise ourselves with the script. Some of us showed the rest who were not there the last time the dance steps for the songs eg. Caritas, and everyone practised with the music. We went through the script, rehearsed the whole thing until we all knew the sequence of the whole performance, when to come onstage, when to speak etc. We also made improvements on our acting, with the help of Tristina :D

The structure members tied the quads and all, the backdrop members hung up the backdrop and helped the firepit members. But then it started to rain heavily, so everyone went to seek shelter after trying to help firepit prevent their stuff from getting wet. Everyone went to the classroom and watched the Item members perform and give comments.

So we performed, and the rest of the guides gave their comments: We were too soft, our backs faced the audience at times and some others. So we took the positive critisism and tried to improve on our it :)

We had 1 hour for lunch, and we also went to the computer lab to practise on our song for Sec 4 Farewell. We sang it quite a number of times, until we finally got the hang of it. The PLs also let us watch some other funny videos, so we had a lot of fun. x) We also had to proceed down to clear up what we did earlier- eg. untie the structures and put back all the poles. Then, we fell in and collected our wallets. :)
(We did not thank Mrs Tan and the PLs, so she said that we would have to run laps if we forgot the next time :o )

Tuesday, 18 November, 7.55-1pm

Tuesday's meeting was for Sec 4 Farewell. After we fell in and all, each patrol went into a seperate classroom to rehease our item. The PSs met up together to polish up our skit. Then, at 8.30, everyone went up to the hall perform. It was a trial run, so everyone except the PLs went backstage. Dove and Flowerpecker performed first, followed by Kingfisher, Mynah, Oriole and then Sparrow. The PS performance was after that of Sparrow's, and after everyone was done, we went offstage and the PLs gave us the comments, and how we could improve on our performances. We were given some time to have our patrol corner, so that we could discuss on further improvements and finalise who was to bring what item for our party on Friday.

We also went up to the computer lab to practise our song, until we could all sing without the help of the lyrics. Then, we also got to watch other videos and listen to songs, having agreed that we would sing the Sec 4 Farewell song each time we watched a video, so in the end, most of us were word-perfect and very familiar with the song.

We also went back to the corridor outside the hall to practise our GOH. We all had to stand still for a while. The PLs reminded us that we were not allowed to move at all on that day itself, regardless of the circumstances and situation, meaning that even though our seniors were to stand in front of us and disturb us, we were not allowed to respond.

After GOH, we went back to the hall to perform once more. After performing, the PLs gave us their views and opinions, and Dove and Flowerpecker patrol had to go onstage to practise a part of their item. We also had to perform our PS item twice. Then, we all went down to the parade square to fall in and wait for the wallets. After we fell out, we collected our wallets and went home. We also remembered to thank Mrs Tan this time round. :D

Okay, that's about for now.
Sec 4 Farewell tomorrow!!!
We LOVE you, seniors!!

Girl Guides Meeting (Unofficial)
Friday 3rd November 2008 7.55- 1pm

Hi :)
We fell in at 7.55. The agenda for today was mainly preparation for Sec 4 Farewell. After we fell out, everyone went into seperate classrooms to practise for the Farewell item. At about 10am, Eunice, Bernadette and Tristina went to the various classrooms to watch the performances.

After that, everyone fell in and we were told to proceed to the hall for G.O.H practice. We did some footdrills for a while, and then practised. We were given places to stand at based on our patrols. The PLs briefed us on what would happen and what we had to do and what we could not do. We stood still for 15 minutes or more as part of the practise.

Next, we fell in again and everyone had to run down to the canteen to fill up our bottles. WATER PARADE!!! We fell in at the parade square and started drinking. Those of us who had not brought water bottles shared with others. After we were done, we were given a short time to rest.

Then, everyone headed for an empty classroom and the PLs talked to us about certain issues. Tristina reminded us about the code of conduct. Long fringes covering the eyebrows were not accepted, the words "CHIJ" on our school socks had to be visible- in other words, we had to pull up our socks (quite literally :D). We were also reminded about the ABCDs- no Arguing, Bargaining, Complaining or Delaying, only Negotiating was allowed.

At around 12.50, we went to the parade square. We fell in, listened to some announcements and fell out. Then we collected our wallets and went home.

Next meeting: Tomorrow- 4th Nov, 7.55- 1, unofficial
