Hello everyone! I'm super sorry for the lag entries. Oh no, getting too much of Xiuhui already. PLs, you know what i mean :P
Sec 1 Orientation Annual Campfire
Day 1: After assembly the guides fell in at 8.00 to start work! So basically, we set up the stage for item (using the tiers from band), tied structure, re-tied structure, especially the quads, and finally, it was done! The backdrop was hung and item practised, and practised, and practised. Meanwhile, firepit was doing some last minute soaking (I think) and started setting up their pit. But alas, it began to rain ): And everyone was saying, "Beter rain now then later." So it poured like it was no ones' business, and firepit had to use ponchos to cover their hard work. Item was forced to use the needlework room as their practice location. The structure girls, however, were happy! It meant that their knots would tighten. It continued to rain, and rain, and rain. Then it stopped! So happy happy la, we all went out to continue our work.
Structure needed some help with the attaching of their structure banner. So obviously I kena lah :/ With the help of Kai Ling and Kit Yee (from badminton), with much effort, we finally got the extremely stubborn pole up and ready. It was really difficult because while on a ladder on a table, it started to rain again! And there we were, shouting at each other in the rain to move this, move that. Eliza took over Kit Yee after a while. The pole was too short so they had to move the quads. And its seriously scary to have the quad moved while the ladder you're standing on is on a table in between the quad. And then my table was moved! Gosh. But finally, after much pespiring and shouting and getting drenched, WE DID IT (: Special thanks to Kit Yee and Kai Ling!
It was still raining and raining, and by then we were all pretty nervous that it wouldn't stop raining. So we all got together under the shelter, held hands, and started praying earnestly to God for the rain to stop. And incredibly, the rain slowly subsided! By 6, the rain had ceased entirely. ((((:
CAMPFIRE. Oh gosh, it was really rocking! The Sec 1s were incredily high and happy and cheering and enthusiastic! And our guides were really happy too, that all our planning had paid off. (:
We stacked the chairs and put them in the shelter. The guides then got to shower! The PLs had already discussed with Mrs Tan that it was pointless to shower before campfire, because the guides would then be sticky and smelly. We gave them ample time to freshen up, and then we had a small briefing in the PAR, where Ms Lakshmi and Ms Koh joined us. They also comgratulated us for the wonderful job we had done (: And then, GOOD NIGHT SWEET DREAMS! The PLs went to shower and then went through the logbooks. Soon after, everyone was asleep.
Day 2: Rise and shine! The guides were sent off for breakfast, and then they had to come back to clear up! Thanks to the OM and his team, our task load was greatly minimised. We did not have to put the chairs back in their original place and we did not have to rearrange the canteen. (: Firepit went to do their own thing. Structure, however, was proving difficult to take down. The knots were super super tight! Xiuhui had to resort to borrowing pliers from the general office to make our job easier. I think some guides even broke their penknife while trying to pry those knots loose :P Eliza came up with a brilliant plan! Remember the pole we had alot of difficulty putting up? She used another pole and just pushed thepole off the quads and it came down with a bang. of course, the guides were safely out of harms way (:
joyce and Anne-marie came back! (: We chit chatted for a bit. Then, after we had finished all our work, we all sat down and talked and ate snacks the PLs had bought. The guides went to scribe in their logbooks after that, and then, HOME SWEET HOME!!!
Special thanks to our guiders, for supporting us all the way, the student council, Mr tan and his team of workers, Seniors Kai Ling, Joyce and Anne-marie, the guides who have been coming back during the holidays to prepare, and of course, the One and Almighty God. We simply could not have done anything without his guidance and his grace.
Three cheers!
Anyway, pictures people!
